Kano Governor, Ganduje, Asks Buhari To Relax Lockdown Over Ramadan

The Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ease the 14-day total lockdown imposed on the state. Buhari had on Monday during a nationwide broadcast ordered a total lockdown on Kano following the rise of COVID-19 cases and the strange deaths in the state. Nigerian Leaders Must Seek Home-grown Solutions To Fight COVID-19 –Ooni Of Ife

Nigerian leaders have been advised to look inwards for home-grown solutions to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the country. Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, gave the charge on Thursday in Akure, Ondo State. Oba Ogunwusi said Coronavirus had paralysed the economy of the country, adding that leaders had to be pragmatic in finding a solution.  He spoke while donating two Motorised Modular Fumigators to Ondo State Government to combat the spread of the virus.  He said, "I have to tell everyone that Coronavirus is real and we can't continue to rest on our oars but we have to look for the solution internally. "In Nigeria, we must use what we have to get what we want. If increasing, it would be more dangerous. "Many great countries in the world have gone through this.” According to the Ooni, the two motorised disinfectants were initiative of the 'House of Oduduwa Machine Tools' and it would go a long way in stemming the tide of the pandemic.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has announced 204 new cases of Coronavirus in the country. In a post on Twitter on Thursday night, the agency said, “204 new cases of #COVID19 reported. “80 Kano, 45 Lagos, 12 Gombe, nine Bauchi, nine Sokoto, seven Borno, seven Edo, six Rivers, six Ogun, four FCT, four Akwa Ibom, four Bayelsa, three Kaduna, two Oyo, two Delta, two Nasarawa, one Ondo and one Kebbi. “11:50pm 30th April, 1932 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. Osun Extends Lockdown Till Sunday, Curfew To Commence On Monday

Governor Gboyega Oyetola Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has announced the extension of lockdown and restriction of movement in the state till Sunday. The initial lockdown in the state was to expire on Thursday (today) but the governor announced an additional three days extension. Oyetola announced that starting from Monday, the lockdown would be eased and curfew would begin in the state. He added that the curfew would be from 6:00pm to 6:00am while there shall be a restriction on vehicular movement.  Governor Gboyega Oyetola He however, exempted verified medical emergencies and those on essential duties from the curfew. COVID-19: Ondo NLC Demands Palliatives For Civil Servants

The Nigerian Labour Congress in Ondo State has asked Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to provide some palliatives to civil servants in the state. The union said no civil servant in the state had benefited from the palliatives being distributed by the government across the 18 local council areas in Ondo since the lockdown occasioned by the spread of Coronavirus. It also said there was need for government to pay special allowance to health workers in the state fighting to ensure an end to the pandemic.  The demand was contained in a joint statement by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Sunday Adeleye-Oluwole, and Secretary, Mr Omokehinde Shadow, on Thursday to commemorate this year's Workers Day celebration. Former drummer, composer and songwriter of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Tony Allen, has passed away.  Allen died in Paris, France, on Thursday.  He was born in Lagos in 1940 and was regarded as one of the founders of Afrobeat.  Fela once stated that, "Without Tony Allen, there would be no Afrobeat."
